Requiem for my Innocence
— Langner, Hans
In 1999 he offered to create an installation in Museum De Stadshof – by way of shedding his old outsider skin, and coinciding with the transition to a new millennium – of 2000 objects, entitled ‘Requiem voor mijn onschuld’ (‘Requiem for my innocence’). The visitor enters a cave-like space, the walls completely covered with paintings and packed full of unrecognisable objects that together form an impenetrable forest of fantastical creatures. He combines contrasting materials with nylon tights as cement, so that the created image remains mobile and changeable. He conjures each object into a living creature, through surprising combinations and the simple addition of a few eyes.
