Ank van Pagée (1956 – 1995) spent her youth among the books of her mother’s antique bookstore in Den Bosch. She ran her own antiquarian shop in Deventer from 1979. The books inspired her to read, write, paint and draw. From 1989 she was plagued by psychoses. Drawing became a way for her to keep going, to survive. Dozens of large wax crayon drawings took shape, in bright colours. The sheets were completely covered, like a mosaic or tapestry, flat, with black contours, without shadow. In 1995 Ank van Pagée put an end to her life. In 1996 Museum de Stadshof showed her artwork in a exhibit: ‘Petit Hommage Ank van Pagée’.
On the occasion of this show her brother Pim van Pagée published a small catalogue: ‘Ank van Pagée’.
