Eïng, Hartmut

Hartmut Eing, b. 1938 at Osterwick, but he lived in northern Germany at the mouth of the mighty Elbe river. After training as a surveyor, he decided to become a teacher at a primary school. Both Hartmut and his wife Ria, a well-known naive painter, were deeply concerned with the environment, which is expressed in a lyrical way in their work. Hartmut offers a romantic image of man in his dealings with nature, the sea, the elements, the fish. Man plays an imaginative game of survival, with whaling and street theater, both being essential livelihoods. Myths and legends play an important role, with universal meaning. He died in 2021.
