Burland, François

François Burland left school early after his secret drawings enabled teachers to label him ‘difficult’. Burland underwent psychotherapy whilst still a young man, when he also began to express himself through painting. Large and often painted on brown paper, giving his work an aged look. Fascinated by mythology of all cultures, Burland’s subjects include mythical monsters, ancient Greek legends, African epics and Celtic fables.
Burland also produces toy vehicles constructed from scrap metal or other discarded items and materials.
