Collection De Stadshof has been given on loan to the Museum Dr. Guislain and is on show in a permanent presentation Hidden Worlds.

Museum Dr. Guislain in Ghent, has been founded in 1986. It is accommodated in a monumental 19th-century building. The institute is responsible for three museum collections: history of psychiatry, social photography and outsider art.

The Dr. Guislain Museum originally was not an art museum, but a museum on the history of psychiatry. Over its twenty years of existence the art collection at the museum has grown, in particular through the addition of the Dutch Collection De Stadshof, into a collection that is representative for the field of outsider art.

Welcome to collectiedestadshof.nl
the new website of
Collection De Stadshof Foundation.

A new and enlarged website to underline the revived ambition of promoting outsider art, in the Netherlands and abroad. Since Museum De Stadshof in Zwolle had to close down in 2001, the Museum Dr Guislain in Ghent is the home base of this Stadshof art collection.

Foundation De Stadshof gives selections of its collection on loan for exhibitions elsewhere and also organises exhibitions itself. Collection De Stadshof strives for realisation of a new platform for outsider art in the Netherlands.

Outsider art to us is an umbrella term, comprising naive art, art brut, visionary art, art singulier, self-taught art, folk art, etc.

Search

You can quest for artist names, or you can just go to Collection and click an art work. Furthermore every work of art has some tags attached, collected in the green tag cloud. By clicking you will select all the works bearing the same quality or feature. And of course you can use the browser.

Language

Language switch at any moment, not for the website as a whole, but per item. Texts in English and Dutch are not necessarily identical.

23 April – 28 August 2011

‘All About Drawing. 100 Dutch Artists’ provides insight into the development of drawing in the Netherlands from the 1960s up to the present day. Diana Wind, director of the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam and artist/curator Arno Kramer selected a hundred artists for whom drawing is the most important discipline in their oeuvre. From Collection De Stadshof a large drawing and collage ‘Brooklyn Bridge’ of Willem van Genk has been selected.

The book entitled ‘All About Drawing. 100 Dutch Artists’ approaches drawing more broadly than the exhibition does. Pietje Tegenbosch and Hans den Hartog Jager sketch the international context and lead us along the boundaries of drawing. In her essay, Maria Barnas demonstrates how closely the signature – writing – lies to drawing. And Renée Steenbergen writes about the perception of drawing in both private ad museum collections. Brief texts on all the artists have been compiled by Yasmijn Jarram, Nicole Theeuwes, Wilma Sütö, Rutger Wolfson, Arno Kramer and Diana Wind. The book costs € 34.50.
