The De Stadshof Collection in Museum Dr. Guislain Ghent

03.05.2013 Exhibitions

The De Stadshof Collection has been given on loan to the Museum Dr. Guislain and is on show in a changing presentation (Hidden Worlds, The Cabinets). Museum Dr. Guislain in Ghent, has been founded in 1986. It is accommodated in a monumental 19th-century building. The institute is responsible for three museum collections: history of psychiatry, social photography and visual (outsider) arts. The Dr. Guislain Museum originally was not an art museum, but a museum on the history of psychiatry. Over its twenty-five years of existence the art collection at the museum has grown, in particular through the addition of the Dutch De Stadshof Collection, into a collection that is representative for the field of outsider art/art brut/solitary creations.
