Sitting men, Rock Garden

Chand, Nek

Nek Chand has always been keen to work with brightly colored scraps of material. Over the years he has made hundreds of cloth figures. Like his concrete sculptures, they are constructed with metal armatures and tightly bound rags underneath a layer of material used for both clothing and features. These sculptures are not permanently installed at the Rock garden but are brought out for display at events and festivals. Many of the men women and children are dressed in typical Punjabi costumes and look like giant rag dolls.
